To calculate weight of a piece of stone

For anything Square or Rectangular:
Length x width x height (in inches) ÷ 1.728 x (weight of pounds per cubic foot) = lbs per stone

For anything Circular

To calculate weight of each piece of stone:
Length x width x height (in inches) ÷ 1.728 x (weight of lbs per cubic foot) / 4 x 3.1416 = lbs per stone

Base Material Calculations

The following formula is used to calculate amount of base material (3/4″ Crushed Gravel):
Step 1: Length x Width = Area (measured in square feet)
Step 2: Area ÷ 12″ x Inches of Base required = Total Cubic Feet of Base
Step 3: Cubic Feet of Base x 1.25 (compression factor) ÷ 27 = Yards of Base Needed

Bedding Sand Calculations

The following formula is used to calculate amount of Bedding Sand (clean, sharp, well graded, 1-1.5″):
Step 1: Length x Width = Area (measured in square feet)
Step 2: Area ÷ 12″ x 1″ (typical thickness) = Cubic Feet of Sand
Step 3: Cubic Feet of Sand ÷ 27 = Yards of Sand Needed
