Offers some of the deepest maroon-purple foliage available, which turns slightly reddish in the fall. Small yellow flowers followed by bright red berries. Rounded shape. Drought tolerant and pest resistant. Plant in full sun for best color. Use as foundation plant, or along a border.

First Editions series. Extremely dense, compact, mounding shrub which requires no pruning. Bright crimson new growth changes with maturity to a rich burgundy-purple color. Drought tolerant once established. Excellent for use in a rock garden or as a border plant. Bright red fruit in fall. Highly tolerant of urban environments.

Aronia (Aronia) melanocarpa 'Elata' (Glossy Black Chokeberry)

Native to North America. Grows into an upright plant which is very winter hardy and has dark green, healthy foliage which turns a brilliant red in fall. Not bothered by insects or disease. Covered by clusters of small white flowers in spring. Flowers followed by clusters of dark blue to black fruit which persist into the winter. Fruit is edible and often made into a healthy juice, syrup or jelly. Self pollinating. Good in mixed border, shrub border, hedge, or as an accent or specimen plant.
