Aronia (Aronia) melanocarpa 'Elata' (Glossy Black Chokeberry)

Native to North America. Grows into an upright plant which is very winter hardy and has dark green, healthy foliage which turns a brilliant red in fall. Not bothered by insects or disease. Covered by clusters of small white flowers in spring. Flowers followed by clusters of dark blue to black fruit which persist into the winter. Fruit is edible and often made into a healthy juice, syrup or jelly. Self pollinating. Good in mixed border, shrub border, hedge, or as an accent or specimen plant.

Also known as Black Gum. Spectacular fall color orange, purple, yellow and red. Native tree which is very adaptable to poor soils. Rich green, glossy foliage. Fissured gray bark provides winter interest. Adaptable to urban conditions, including compacted and poorly drained soils.
